About Me

Background

I began my learning at the age of 4, and developed my skills under a range of teachers and many styles of genres. My playing now spans jazz, contemporary, and popular music, being able to freely improvise between sections in real time.

I'm highly competitive by nature, which means that I continuously strive to develop my skills and challenge myself each day through practice, teaching and performance .

Experience

I am a professional pianist and educator with over a decade of experience performing and teaching both privately and in schools.

I have played for weddings, private events, vineyards, and national conventions across the Hunter Region.

I’ve trained under a diverse range of tutors, from state conservatorium-level instructors to teachers specializing in European compositional styles and classical theory. This broad exposure has shaped my playing and teaching approach, allowing me to blend technique, creativity, and musical understanding across genres for a well-balanced approach to music.

Teaching Style

My teaching focuses on helping students develop a genuine love for music while building strong technical and creative skills. I work on improvisation, jazz, pitch training, and chordal theory, with practice grounded in scales, sight-reading, and classical foundations.

I don’t emphasise exams. Instead, I encourage students to pursue music beyond the HSC and Grade 8 level in AMEB, exploring practical ways to use their skills, such as teaching piano, performing at weddings, or leading church worship.

As students progress to advanced and applicational levels, we expand into modern improvisation and creative expression, blending classical techniques with contemporary improvisation and chord theory to create a wider range of applications for their skillset.

Learning Outcomes

As a piano teacher, I’ve guided students to perform at state-level showcases, helping them build confidence, skill, and a genuine love for music.

  • School Showcase Representation – Several of my students have been selected to represent their schools for their piano performances, going on to perform at state-level showcases featuring top students from across the region.

  • NSW Department of Education Recognition – I’ve had student performances listed in Reprise, the NSW Department of Education’s showcase highlighting outstanding HSC music performances.

  • Eisteddfod Achievement – One of my students was accepted into the Association of Eisteddfod Societies of Australia, recognising their strong musical ability and performance potential after only 6 years of lessons.
